Remembering Chuck Edler. Help Honor Him & Buriel.

Charles "Chuck Edler is my stepdad, who I've known since I was 6-7 years old. Chuck was born on 9/2/1949 and was adopted as a child. He had 7 brothers and sisters that he learned of when he was in his 30s but lived estranged from them. My mom met him and after the first date, he immediately started caring for us like we were his own. First, he got my mom a reliable van so he knew the three of us were safe when in the car (My Mom, Older Brother Nick, and I), and so my mom could continue driving us to school and making it to work. After a few weeks, he learned that we were being evicted and that the van would be our home, and without hesitation, he moved us all into his house. It was in a separate school district, although I didn't figure that out until later on. No matter what, Chuck did everything in his power to keep our lives the same and they were before taking us in besides letting us feel unstable or like we had to worry. Chuck has always been a selfless man, and although I wasn't aware of it at that age it wasn't his first time raising kids. Chuck had been married and lost his wife "Marlene", and had several grown children that were estranged from him. It was like he knew what to do, how to do it, and chose to use this as a second chance. Through the years things would change due to 2008 and unforeseen events, but that didn't stop him from trying his hardest to keep us safe. Eventually, things happened like my Dad coming back to town for good and he stopped working for the painters union. I started living with my Dad and Grandparents to live in the same town I went to school and be closer to spending time with my dad and also playing football. After a while football took a toll on me and I had to stop playing, I let my grades slip and eventually dropped out in 2014. Then on September 20th, 2015 at 51 my dad suddenly passed and the downhill spiral started for me and Nick. From Early 2016 to Sept. 2017, we were incarcerated. Through all of this Chuck was there for my mom when neither I nor Nick could be. She had already been "sick" and then suffered a major stroke and has had aftershocks or mini-strokes since. Though she has struggled with major mental illness, back injuries, and strokes she was still denied and unable to receive any sort of disability from the state of IL. Then several months ago we found out Chuck had lung cancer, and that the cancer spread throughout his entire body. He still battled to go to work while getting radiation and chemo. He seemed to be getting better until he started getting worse again. After the diagnosis, she got a job at Jewel-Osco working part-time as a cashier to bring in what money she could. I've been doing my best to help, and realizing I can only do so much I realized I had to stop and ask for help. That's what this is... Whoever sees this, or knows Chuck, and even if you don't please help however you can even if it's by sharing with people. I've lost my dad, and can't bear to think about what it'll be like to lose another dad and mentor. My mom's current state seems to be from the stress of everything from doctors, worrying, medical bills, and everything else that comes from all of that weight. I'm hoping this will help my mom get her bills under control and her condition. This is for Chuck and Susan, my Step-Dad and Mom. Please, help Chuck however you can. I know that I'd be eternally grateful along with my brother Nick, my mom, and my stepdad. Thank you, and help Save Susan and Comfort, and Choose Chuck. Life is too precious for the small things only to be thought about during these times. Please at the very least say a prayer and let's kick this cancer ASS!

Yesterday on 2/14/2023 at 10:00 A.M. Charles (Chuck) Edler passed away from his battle with lung cancer. Last year in January is when he found out and was diagnosed. He was 72 years old. You'll be remembered and missed, Chuck. Rest In Peace
