PLEASE SUPPORT MY URBAN FARM and LAND OWNERSHIP PROJECT
Hello! My name is LeTicia. I am a proud native of Kentucky who has lived and worked in Louisville for two decades, but I grew up on my grandparents farm and pay lake in South central Kentucky. My urban farm is more than just growing food and other plants. It’s about cultivating the growth of people and the community - in order to take better care of ourselves, and each other. It is a frame of mind - a conscious decision to learn and grow ourselves and improve our health holistically. It’s an intentional display of how we can individually reclaim our own spaces, enjoy, reap the rich resources it bears and share the excess. With any new endeavor, it is wise to start small, and show growth. So that is the plan here too. Start small, and show growth. Stay rooted, but flexible. I am farming on my less than a quarter of an acre plot and until I purchase up to 10 acres of land to farm here in the city. We are blessed to find more that would be great! This small scale urban farm will feed my family and the community around me! However it unfolds, it will be solid and grassroots-driven; exploding with opportunities for anyone, no matter their age or experience, to grow food, enhance soil health, become more self-sufficient, and sustainable. To all supporters...I am truly humbled and grateful for your generosity and your gifts. THANK YOU. Thank you especially for uplifting the voices and efforts of Black women, black-owned businesses, and our local agricultural community. ALL monetary gifts will be used for the start-up costs. This includes, but not limited to:1. Equipment (tractor, plow, front loader, seeder, etc) and infrastructure (1-2, 50 ft high tunnels, drip irrigation, 1-2 walk-in cooler, erosion troubleshooting), and soil health tests and amendments, land, leveling the land, electricity, legal fees, and a connection to municipal water. The farm will provide fresh, naturally grown produce for at least 8-10 months out of the year (we naturally grow all products using organic methods and we are KY Proud).2. Water catchment systems that will allow for the collection of rainwater on the property to reduce the use of municipal water because we believe rainwater is the best water for the plants, our bodies and more cost effective long term. 3. Community projects that include creating FREE and affordable food garden plots and access to fresh produce in the food deserts of our city, specifically the zip codes 40215, 40212, 40211, 40210 where access to fresh produce is very, very limited. 4. Purchasing up to 10 acers of farmland here in the city. 5. Create jobs: Hire at lease 2 full time employees, 3 part time employees This farm will have a demonstration gardening/farming component a plant nursery where the community can purchase of plant starts from our onsite nursery (flowers, vegetables, herbs, and some berries); allow community groups and/or individuals access to garden/farming plots and greenhouses to start, grow, and/or expand their hobbies and businesses; intentionally create a network of market vendors that supply fresh produce, herbs, honey, and other natural products to areas that have historically experienced lack of access to naturally grown foods right in our city! Food deserts and food insecurity are REAL. This farm will be a part of the solution.
THE GOAL: $440,000 BY OCT 2023.
