My UWC dream

Hi there, my name is Ellys and I am a 16-year-old from Newport, South Wales with a big dream. This dream is to receive an education in a diverse environment that will challenge my ideas and help me gain a world-wide view that will enable me to leave my mark in the future. Unfortunately, even after recieving a scholarship, it will cost my small family £7,000 for the two years. I live with my mum and younger sister and as we are a low income family, we would have to rely heavily on my nan and grandad who are almost in their 80s to pay the tuition. This burden is putting a strain on my family; so I guess I am asking you to help fund my dream as well as help my family. UWC is a global educational movement with 17 highly prestigious and selective colleges across the world. Their mission is to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. The college I have been nominated for is Atlantic College which is the original UWC college and is here in Wales. I will be one of 100 students from 91 countries starting the IB diploma in September 2019 at Atlantic. My career ambition for the future is to become an English Second Language teacher in developing countries and to volunteer in these communities to help improve living conditions and to embrace the unique traditions. In addition to this, I would also like to spend some time volunteering with TNKR (Teach North Korean Refugees) and, if possible, at a Hanawon. Moreover, as I am fluent in Welsh, I would like to help share the beauty of my extraordinary language in any way possible. In terms of education, I received 6 A's and 1 B in year 10 and will find out my results from this year in August. In the past, I have recieved awards for my fundraising, French assessments, Geography and History. In 2018 I was also selected to be one of the lucky 8 students throughout Wales to take part in London Week 2018 where we had to devise a business idea for the future and then present it in a 'Dragon's Den' style pitch.
