My wheelchair has been stolen!
Donation protected
Even though it may seem like I am in an unfortunate situation, I consider myself lucky I can still write those words. I'm happy that I still have a chance to ask for your help.
For over 4 years now I have been fighting a battle I can't win, but still, every day is a win for me. Over 4 years of continuous chemotherapy, surgeries, countless procedures, radiotherapy, blood transfusions. Didn't think I would still be here now. Didn't think I had it in me.
In 2019 I was diagnosed with stage 4 of an extremely rare and aggressive type of sarcoma cancer, with only around 200 cases recorded since it was first described and only a 15% 5-year survival rate. The available treatment is very limited and despite the best efforts, my body is slowly giving up. Every cycle of chemo is getting more and more difficult, without the chemo the disease spreads rapidly.
It has been a difficult journey, but a journey I had help with - my ever-supportive wife, amazing friends, family, NHS staff that is like an extended family really and complete strangers, as well as some charities. I could always rely on the help of others and I need to ask for help again.
My wheelchair and other walking aid were stolen last weekend.
I have no hope of getting it back. I can't even get myself to call the Birmingham Hospice to let them know it's gone - the hospice donated it in the first place. I was happy when I got it and could move around, it has allowed me to go out and enjoy little things in life again. Without my wheelchair, it wouldn't be possible to get to many of my chemotherapy rounds or doctor appointments.
I now need to replace them and buy additional locks to secure them so hopefully they won't be stolen again.
I was trying to save money to pay for my funeral too - it's really weighing on me, I don't want my wife to need to deal with it when I'm gone, she really doesn't deserve that.
Hopefully, this fundraiser will help me get new mobility aid, and maybe even help to fund the funeral house so I could truly focus on making memories.
