Myanmar - medical aid for the poor
Hi, my name is Ian and together with a group of likeminded medics and organisations, which have been assisting with medical projects in Myanmar, we are raising funds for urgent medical care for the poor in Myanmar.
On 1st February a military junta seized power in Myanmar, deposing the democratically elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi. Since then, there have been widespread protests and civil disobedience. State hospitals have ceased to function. Health professionals have joined the protests, the military have occupied hospitals, they have surrounded GP surgeries, intimidated health workers, arrested doctors and frightened their families. The military have used extreme force shooting and killing health workers attending to injured protesters
There have been over 750 deaths, many of them children and health care workers
The result has been the near collapse of the health care system in Myanmar. The well off have turned to private clinics, beyond the reach of most poor Burmese.
The need is urgent.
We need your help to raise funds to provide medical supplies and set up community clinics to treat the poor and injured protesters, as well as to manage Covid vaccinations, malaria, TB and HIV programmes.
It is 5576 air miles from London to Yangon (Rangoon) and we plan to set up a relay by people signing up to cycle a set distance, in the UK, between 22nd May and the end of July (this includes bike week in the UK)
I will be pledging to cycle 500 miles
The money will be passed to The Brighter Future Foundation charity that supports health and education projects in Myanmar to assist with the emergency care so urgently needed at this precarious time.

Our aim is to raise sufficient funds to set up an emergency community clinic to treat the poor, as well as providing urgent medical equipment and supplies.
Please help us to reach this goal.
Thank you
