My Bright Kite for Young Refugees
Donation protected
Donate today and support our campaign to bring hope and support to children affected by war, persecution and human rights abuses, who have found safety and a new start in Yorkshire, UK.
Can you imagine how it feels to be a child who has lived through war, seen people tortured and killed, been forcibly uprooted from home, school, family and friends?
My Bright Kite CIC (Community Interest Company) was started after a series of personal life events inspired us to come together and pool our experience, knowledge, and skills to provide the best possible outcomes for young refugees.
We saw children who we met in refugee camps, arriving to the UK and struggling to settle. As individuals, we have provided informal support to children and families over a number of years, but now as a team, we are passionate about extending the reach of our work to ensure our support is high quality, impactful and empowering.
My Bright Kite is a specialist not-for-profit organisation with a vision for every young refugee to feel safe, included and empowered to reach their dreams and aspirations.
Refugee children face multiple traumas in their young lives and have been denied basic human rights. Most have lived for periods in inhumane conditions in refugee camps and made long and perilous journeys on foot, road and sea before arriving to build a new life in the UK. Claiming asylum (the process of asking the UK government for protection and living in uncertainty whilst waiting for a decision), living in poverty, learning a new language and culture can also bring a host of new challenges.
We provide children with the crucial support they need through tailored group work programmes in schools and community settings in Leeds and Bradford. In the last four weeks, six different education settings have contacted us about refugee children in their settings who are in urgent need of our support. We don't want to let these children down and we need your donations to make this happen.
As a brand new organisation we currently have close to ZERO funds! We've self funded all our start-up costs over the last six months and we're now in critical need of funding to enable us to kick-start our direct support with refugee children.
100% of your donation will go towards enabling us to provide newly arrived refugee children much needed social and emotional support through our My Bright Kite Youth Projects.
The programmes build on children's incredible strengths, empowering them to feel heard and have a voice, feel valued and cared for.
The groups and activities also nurture children's aspirations, empowering each individual to feel emotionally safe, able to settle, thrive and look to a brighter future.
Here is how your donation will help:
· £15 helps towards the cost of nutritious refreshments for children who access our programmes.
· £25 helps us pay for educational resources to stimulate learning and child development.
· £50 helps towards the costs of basic essential items (school uniform, shoes, school bags, stationary, books) for children who arrive with very little.
· £100 helps to pay for specialist practitioners to deliver weekly child wellbeing programmes to a group of children in a school for one month.
· £200 helps fund a memorable and fun filled day out for a group of newly arrived children, helping to build new friendships and a sense of belonging.
Refugee children display remarkable strength and resilience but we know from experience that having the right support in place early on is fundamental for child wellbeing, integration and future life prospects. Our youth programmes create opportunities for education, fun and friendships. They help children develop key skills, promote emotional wellbeing and build support networks.
We are so grateful for your donations, enabling us to achieve our mission. We look forward to updating you on all our work through our social media and website.
