Pimp Alex a ride!

Donation protected
For those who know Alex McDonald, they know he’s a decent bloke. Always around to help youout and would genuinely give you the shirt off his back.

Starting Father’s Day 2021, Alex experienced a headache, he went on to have a catastrophic stroke leaving him with full paralysis and Locked in Syndrome, meaning he has full cognition and no ability to move his body. Alex has remained in ICU for 18 weeks and has a tracheostomy to help him with his breathing.
Alex is undergoing comprehensive rehabilitation which has enabled Alex to gain control of neck movements and some very basic ability to move his arms.
Fortunately Alex is learning to talk again, even with a tracheostomy in place, an improvement of only being able to communicate through eye movements.
Rehabilitation will be a long journey but his family and friends are committed to helping Alex to have great quality of like.

Planning for the future when Alex is able to return home and be with his family, Alex will need a car which is wheelchair accessible.
Until this experience, we’d never realised what it takes to set up a life for someone with physical disabilities. Hats off to all the people who have lived with disabilities for a long time.
Finding a car, new or second-hand has proven to be difficult. Waiting times are up to and beyond 12 months.
Finding or modifying a house is another challenge and a chat for another day.

The aim of this fundraiser is to help Alex and the family be able to keep Alex mobile, get to appointments but also be able to get out and about to have a new normal life. Even eventually get to have a road trip.

Natasha, Mimmy and Theo are looking towards to Alex one day returning home and an accessible mobility friendly car is going to be needed.

If you’re able to put in, even the cost of a take
away coffee, this will help Natasha towards the cost of getting a Alex friendly set of wheels.

The insurance company isn’t coming through with the goods despite Alex having income and disability insurance. $75K sounds excessive, mobility cars cost a fortune. Every contribution is greatly appreciated, and we are happy to pay what we need to.
