Mykel's Bedbug War
Donation protected
So here’s the story:
I went to a Halloween party and talk about justified scariness… I got bedbugs. Brought ‘em home (not intentionally) and now I’m covered in bites… I look like a small pox victim.
But, you say, that’s the landlord’s responsibility! Part right. He has to pay the exterminator (first time only, I think). I have to pay:
Initial Dry Cleaner
$70.52
(coat + sleeping bag, paid)
mass laundry & heat treatment
$375
(estimate)
mattress disposal
$10
(estimate)
New Big Mattress
$1000
(estimate)
Hotel during spray time
$120
(estimate)
New Clothing (estimate)
while rest is heat treated
$50
Further Dry Cleaning
(2 suit jackets & heavy coat)
(estimate)
$90
Prescription Medication
95.42
(insect purge, itch cream, sleep drug, paid)
Total:
$1810.94 (plus credit card, GoFund fees)
And that’s only if it works. Usually exterminators require a bare apartment, stripped down to the walls. The landlord found one that only requires me to remove cloth and destroy my non-protected mattress. If the bugs come back, that means I have to remove everything I own, pack it up, have it shipped to a storage facility, then stored while the exterminator does the whole thing again. If I have to pay for the exterminator too, that could double the price.
I’m not (yet) asking for the “goes wrong” money. I just need to cover my initial expenses. If (when) something else goes wrong… or the bugs survive the first blast… I’ll ask again. I really appreciate this… and please, don’t tell my family members… they’re libel to give more than they can afford!
Murphy’s Law: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.
Board’s Law: Even if nothing can go wrong, it STILL will go wrong.
Thanks a lot. I know my friends aren’t rich… but every dime helps.
Oh yeah, don’t forget my legal name is Michael… not Mykel.
