Myles Danny Smith recovery efforts

Donation protected
UPDATE: May 13 2023

First, thank you all again and again for all of the support and kind words; it means so much to us.  Danny's infections are getting better (there were THREE). During his last surgery, the doctors had to leave his infected wound open so he is in a pseudo-isolation unit until his surgery on Monday or Tuesday. It is incredibly sterile and very controlled. The doctor is hopeful to do the amputation below the knee but he will know more when he begins the procedure. Charnell tells him about all the love and support because he is not looking at his phone right now. He is so touched and feels the love. He has kindly asked for no visitors at this time in order to maintain the sterility of his environment. Charnell says, "THANK YOU AGAIN, EVERYONE, WITH ALL MY HEART."

Charnell does have a Venmo if you prefer to donate that way. @Charnell-Smith-2 There will be a fundraiser with the Ventura Fire Foundation in July and will be held at a local brewery. More details to come!

My name is Renee & I am reaching out on behalf of my folks, Danny & Charnell Smith.
As many of you know, Danny was injured while on the job as a local fire captain. Since his accident going to fight a fire in the river bottom 6 years ago & falling roughly 10+ feet into the unmarked drainage culvert, he has had worsening trouble with his left leg. There has been severe clotting in his veins & he still goes to wound care a couple of times a week.
In the last year, his right leg (which we have called the good leg) has developed an aneurism & he has had many surgeries to fix this. All of these surgeries have been for naught as he recently developed a blood clot in his growing arteries that is stopping the flow of blood to his lower leg. The last surgery he underwent resulted in him getting an infection. He is now battling blood infections but he is in the best place to get a handle on that. He has stopped getting a pulse in his right lower extremities & cannot feel his foot or wiggle his toes so his medical team will be amputating his right leg; they are unsure if it will be above the knee or below the knee until they see how the blood flow & tissue looks. This has to be done in order to save his life.
His therapy will be a long road but he is such a strong & determined man he will get through this. Danny is Charnell's EVERYTHING & she plans to be there with him every inch of the way.
This fundraiser is being held to help with the following expenses:
  • cover his medical expenses as private insurance & workers comp are not cooperating
  • cover the expense of high-quality prosthetics to improve his quality of life
  • cover travel expenses for Charnell to stay close to him
  • bring the home up to ADA standards since this will be a LONG recovery
  • assist with living expenses
Per Charnell, "Thank you for all the prayers & love over these last several years. We feel them & we are so grateful. I will keep everyone posted after the surgery
Love to all."
On behalf of our family, we sincerely appreciate your consideration.
