HI Everyone! As you all know my Sister Sandy has Neuro Fibromatosis Type II. This is a genetice disease most of my family suffers from. The disease causes tumors to grow on nerve endings in the brain and spine. Sandy was diagnosed at the age of 25. She went from being a young virbrant woman, within a day after her first surgery she was left deaf and paralyzed. She is a fighter and has continued t persevere. In Novemer of 2014 Sandy's health started to decline. She was rapidly losing weight, in constant pain, and her balance was getting worse by the day. In the past nuerosurgeons told her she was inoperable. Therefore, she was bascially living while her brain tumors were growing and slowly killing her. We decided to seek help in NYC at NYU. Thank God, we found surgeons that were willing to operate and try to save her life. Without the surgery, we were told she would only live another 6 months. Surgery was a very high risk. They were not even sure she would survive it, but it was our only hope.
The surgery was a huge success. Sandy spent one week in the hospital, and has since been in Rehablition therpay as an in patient. The surgery left her very week. She is not able to walk yet. She is not able to swallow solid foods. She is making huge progress eveyday, but she still has a long journey ahead. of her. The sad part is, since Sandy has been an in patient with therapy for the amount of time she has, her insurance will no longer pay for her to continue even though she is not physically ready to go home. We know as a family she needs to be stronger. She is making such leaps and bounds with the intense therpay she is having everyday. Going home now would be a set back. Our family does NOT have the funds to pay for her continued stay. I have decided to try and raise Money for my amazing sister. So that she can feel strong and confident and leave when she is ready, not when the insurance comapny decides that will no longer pay for her care. Please help Sandy recover. No donation is too small.
