Mitten's Broken Leg Surgery

Mittens (Meri, Jeff, & Cash's youngest rescue kitty) got out on Saturday night, 1/21 and was missing for 2 days. When he came home on Monday, 1/23 it was clear he had been injured and needed immediate help. It seemed like he was trying to get home during those two days but had to hide and rest to build up the energy to get back home. The vet and surgeon think he got caught in a fence or something similar which injured his leg.

After taking Mittens to the vet Monday afternoon, it turns out his right rear tibia has a compound break. Because of this, surgery is the best bet for him to fully recover and live a normal life. He is only 2 years old and perfectly healthy otherwise and has a lot of life and love left. He is neutered, up to date on all vaccines, and receives regular preventive care. He is their Cash’s first pet and is loved by all of them and has a safe home.

Meri and Jeff also have 2 rescue pups, Goose (13 yr) and Honey (1 yr), and another rescue kitty, Warner(5 yr). On top of caring for their four pets, they are currently fostering an injured dog that Jeff found on the side of the road in their back yard. They are working tirelessly to rehome him and keep the sweet boy out of the Memphis shelters.

Due to several unexpected hardships over the past two years, while they were still recouping from the cost of moving and first-time home ownership, they have no savings and have been using their credit cards as their emergency fund. Their family’s primary car was stolen in late November and had to be replaced which was a major financial blow.

The total cost for Mitten’s initial appt and surgery is between $2,700-$3,000 dollars. Any assistance is appreciated so he can receive the care he needs and ease the family’s financial burden and prevent them from going into further debt and help Mittens live a long, happy, and healthy life!
