Bring Ben Home

Donation protected
As many of you know, the Yellin family’s life was turned upside down at the end of September. Ben Yellin was in a cycling accident that left him with a spinal cord injury. He’s a month into his journey to recovery but for anyone that knows about spinal cord injuries, he has a very long road ahead with many uncertainties.

Ben and Marcy Yellin are not the type of people that would ever ask for help, yet they would not hesitate to drop everything to help their community. Many of you know Marcy from her singing, whether it be with your kids or grandkids, or at various schools, nursing homes, churches, temples, the JCC and Marblehead Parenting. Through covid she’s run classes for new moms just to make sure their kids could be entertained with music and to create community.

Ben you’ve probably recognized from his bike rides all over the north shore and beyond. He spent 23 years involved with the Pan Mass Challenge, raising over $76K for cancer. On top of that, he rode his bike across Israel 3 times to help raise money for the Ramah Camps Tikvah Program for Disabilities. He also ran the Tour de Shuls on the North Shore to raise money for Camp Ramah in the Berkshires where Marcy & Ben’s son Jacob spent many summers.

Beyond the singing and charity efforts, Marcy and Ben have been instrumental in creating many programs for disabilities in the community. At Swampscott Middle and High School there now exists a life skills room, which was created as they fought for inclusion for their son Jacob as he progressed through the school system. The inclusion camp at the JCC in Marblehead, so that kids with disabilities can have summer fun, just like everyone else is something you can thank the Yellin’s for. Younger children with disabilities go to camp and the older ones work there, helping to build their skills and accomplishments.

The Yellin’s have left their mark around the community and have hopefully left a lasting positive impact for many years to come. Now let’s show that we can help them in their time of need. There are a ton of unknown costs ahead as Ben starts at Spaulding Rehab. To get him home requires home modifications, equipment, ongoing therapies and countless things that no one is really prepared for.

Every little bit will help on this journey and anything not used here to help the Yellin’s will be paid forward to help others with spinal cord injuries.
