Amanda Smith

Hi, my name is Natalya Restrepo. Amanda Smith is a very close family friend of mine and acted as an Aunt to me. She was one of the most kind hearted people I knew and was best friends with both my mother and her sister for over 25 years. Amanda was like a sister to them, and once again, like an aunt to me. She was such a caring and kind person and had a huge heart for animals. On Monday November 13th she was in a senseless traffic accident with two other vehicles and a semi-tractor. She had six rescue kitties in the vehicle with her that she was transporting to the SPCA for adoption. Her vehicle sustained the most damage of those involved and she was trapped in the vehicle for a long time.

At the hospital, the trauma team preformed extraordinary measures to resuscitate her heart and stabilize her. She suffered a brain bleed, facial fractures, carotid artery damage, punctured diaphragm, liver/spleen lacerations, fractures to her ribs, pelvis, femur, tibia/fibula, and arm. Her poor body was just completely broken.
She fought hard for two days to stay here with us, but the damage to her brain was too severe and her body started to shut down. She never regained consciousness so hopefully she was unaware of all she went through.

The family had to make the excruciating decision to let her finally rest.

Those of you you that knew Amanda are feeling the enormous hole that is here now. She was one of the most kind and selfless individuals I have known in my life. She devoted her life to rescuing as many kitties as possible for the past 15 years, often at the expense of herself, her time, and finances. She gave of herself endlessly and without reservation to save as many kitties as possible. She impacted the entire community, individuals, and innumerable lives of kitties in ways that continue to ripple and will for a long time.

If you would like to make a financial donation to help her family with the associated costs of her passing this page has been set up for that. Amanda was also intricately involved with Cat Matchers rescue group if you want to donate to them instead. If you are not in a place to make a monetary donation, please consider volunteering or fostering for any animal rescue to continue her passion for saving animals. At the very least just hug your family and love on your animals.

Any of these things would make Amanda’s heart happy. Thank you.
