2020 Olympics Badminton Dream
Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Timothy Lam and I’m a professional badminton player for the United States of America. I’m currently #101 in the world and #1 in the United States based on world ranking for Men’s Singles. I started playing badminton at the age of 6 and have been representing my country in numerous competitions around the world such as Junior Nationals, Pan America Championships, and World Juniors. Recently I’ve made the decision to pursue my dream of representing USA at the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games.
When I first started the sport, little did I realize that badminton would eventually create a huge impact on my life. For me, badminton has been a huge stepping stone in developing my character and way of life. In fact, I had to work really hard to graduate one year early from college so that I can devote my full time to pursue my Olympic dream.
In order to qualify for the Olympics, I need to improve my world ranking by competing in a lot of tournaments worldwide for the next two/two and half years. For example, the remainder of this year, I will be competing in Peru, Australia, Mexico, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Bahrain, Dubai, Scotland, Italy, and USA. Also, my short-term goal is to represent the US at the Pan America Games in Peru next summer.
I have played professionally for USA for many years, largely on self-funding. Unfortunately, because the sport is not as popular here, there is little to no support from the badminton organizations in the US. With more funding, I would be able to get more professional training, play more tournaments, gain more experience and world ranking points, thus increasing my chances of qualifying. With your help I can achieve goals that I originally could not have imagined.
I have many expenses such as travel, lodging, and training; your donation will mean a great deal to me as well as towards my dream of representing the United States of America for the next Summer Olympics 2020.
Thank You for your support!
Competition Highlights:
· 7x US National Junior Champion (2007, 2011, 2013)
· 3x Pan America Junior Badminton Champion (2009, 2014)
· Best world junior ranking: 32
· US national team member
· Runner’s up at 2018 Guatemala International
· Runner’s up at 2018 Bahrain International
