Wellness for Wyatt

Wyatt was born on Oct. 29th 2018 to Joni Opsal and Dain Friedrichs. When he was born they found out that he has Downs syndrome, and that he has a hole in his heart that he will need open heart surgery to fix. But they wanted him to weigh 12lbs before surgery.
On January 10 he was scheduled to see a doctor because he wasn't eating good and wasn't gaining weight. He was then admitted to St. Cloud Hospital. The plan was to keep him there for a couple weeks and put a feeding tube in to get him to gain weight and to do heart surgery the beginning of February.
On January 12th Wyatt pulled out his feeding tube and while putting it back in they noticed something on the x-ray that didn't look right. He had pneumatosis and was transferred to the University of Minnesota. There they determined that he also had Necrotizing Enterocolitis(NEC), which is when part off the bowel dies and the mortality rate is fairly high. He was then put on IV's and no food.
On January 15th the x-rays showed that the pneumatosis was gone and they caught the NEC soon enough that it didn't do any damage to his intestines. At that time the doctors decided to keep him on IV's and antibiotics with no food for another 4 or 5 days to ensure that the pneumatosis was gone .
On January 18th Wyatt got a fever over night and that morning they found out that he had an infection in his foot where the centerline pick was. So they removed the pick and put him on another antibiotic for 48 hours.
On January 21st they introduced Wyatt back to a bottle with a special formula. He wasn't exactly exited about eating this formula so they put a feeding tube back in. With all of this going on his heart was working really hard so they put him on heart medication.
On January 28th the cardiologists had a meeting and the decision was to try and get him closer to weighing 12lbs and they wanted his pneumatosis to be gone for 5 weeks.
On January 31st Wyatt started sweating and was hard to keep warm and was also breathing hard. So cardiology was notified and they said that he was showing more signs of heart failure and he was already maxed out on his heart medication. If he wouldn't have had NEC and pneumatosis they would have done heart surgery at this time but it was only gone for about a week and a half not 5 weeks like they wanted. The last week or so they have been just watching Wyatt's heart and surgery is scheduled for Wednesday morning. (February 13th). A big thank you to everyone that has been thinking and praying for Wyatt and please continue to do so especially over the next couple weeks.
