Quantek's Fund

We are Quantek, a team of senior mechanical engineers  comprised of Julian Campuzano, Eli Gonzalez, Nghiep Nguyen and Adrian Garcia at the University of Houston. Our goal is to design a Wheel-Driven Exoskeleton to enable individuals with Paraplegia or Spinal Cord Injuries (SCI) to independently stand upright and have mobility over ground.

We are humbled to contribute our time and efforts to help the parapelgic community in a positive way. Our device would allow prevention of pressure sores (which develop over lack of blood flow and can lead to gangrene within the muscle), promote blood flow to the legs and reduce spasticity (involuntary muscle contraction). The current market is absurdly expensive, where scooters and upright mobile exskeletons cost over $40,000. We are dedicated to manufacture a quality product at 1/4 of the price.

The current prototype, named “Janus”, is designed to assist the user from a “sitting position” to a “standing position”. The user will be able to control the device in any planar direction via a handheld joystick. A safety control positioning strategy allows the device to keep the user from tipping over to the ground.






The collected funds will be used to purchase a system comprised of motors, harmonic drives, and pneumatic struts, to translate the person from sitting to standing position via a support frame, hinged at the knees and hip; the entire structure will be driven by a 2 wheel, self-balancing scooter, and supported by 2 rear wheels for stability.

We are hoping that you could be able to help us reach this goal, which would allow us to create "JANUS" and better the lives of those who have been affected with spinal cord injuries.
