N95 Masks for Front Line Hot Spot Hospitals

Send Them Some Love!

Front line medical workers are desperate for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like specific safety masks. GREAT NEWS!  On Thursday, April 2, a plane will land from China with 1.5 million N95 masks. A second plane arrive Saturday! (These shipments are arranged and distributed by Innovest Global . Specs and shipping details are here .) Scroll down for Q&A. We are confirmed to have two cases (800 masks) set aside for this little project - normally the minimum order is 100,000 pieces!

Our leadership training team (Facilitators in Transformation 5 (FIT5) of Next Level Trainings  is raising money to send cases of these masks directly to front line hot spot hospitals. Each case of 400 masks costs about $2400, or $6 each. They are more expensive then might be expected because the masks are being flown in via air freight rather than shipped on a boat.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to questions I have received:

1. Is there documentation that they work (i.e. meet N95 specs) and are not expired?

A - The attached document  has all the specs and also the shipping into. Scroll down past the Chinese and it is in English.
 

2. Who is the "company"? How did these suddenly become available?

A - I happen to know the girlfriend of a guy at this company, who is not the guy below. She gave her boyfriend my info and the sales guy called me. This is an Ohio company. You can see their web page . The attached document has all the specs and also the shipping into. Scroll down past the Chinese and it is in English.


3. At $6/mask, how much profit is the company taking? Put another way, what is their donation?

4. $4800 means 800 masks. What's happening to the other 1,499,200 masks?

A - They were looking to sell in lots of 100,000 at a time, but I asked if we could do a case or two, and they said yes. I am hopeful that various state governments and hospitals are buying the rest.  There is also a second shipment of 3 million arriving on Saturday, according to the sales guy.

I can't verify what the profit is.  They say it is very little. I've asked about the price and the answer is this:

"Yes. You can find them for that price ($6/2 at Home Depot) but they are completely out of stock. 3-3.50 a mask was the standard price before all this happened. The reason for the 6 per mask is because we are paying to air freight them in." 


5. I assume the $4800 is to buy the masks + delivery from the "company." How much are you or others (the training team?) taking from the donations? I assume nothing, but you might clarify that.

A - The training group is not taking a single cent. This is an exercise in the weekend-long training - "Find a way to support front line workers in a hot-spot. You must raise at least $1000 by 1pm Sunday, and you may not spend any of your own money."  It is an exercise in both giving and enrollment. We are raising funds beyond our "artificial" 1pm deadline (that's just for purposes of the training) because we believe in this cause and we want to give people a way to help.

6. Is this shipment pre-cleared by US Customs?

A. YES!

7. Is the Detroit Medical Center aware of this project?

A. YES! And Deeply appreciative.
