Dear Friends,
We are writing this letter in collaboration with Matt Shepard to request monetary support for help through a challenging time. Matt has been working on recovery from complex trauma and now has identified that he needs to enter an intensive treatment program in Nashville at the recommendation of his therapist. The opportunity for him to do this next phase of trauma work in an intensive setting will offer him the time and care that’s needed, along with skills that will assist him on his path to healing.
Matt has exhausted all avenues of reimbursement for this program and it was clear to us, Matt's friends, that we help initiate this assistance from people who feel prompted by their connection to Matt. It is essential that Matt enter this program as soon as possible so that he can get the support he urgently needs at this time. If you are able to give, any amount will help him add to his own resources and meet the cost of the program with some expense money for his time out of work.
Any amount that you are comfortable giving will help and most importantly will convey hope at a time that Matt most needs it. If giving money isn’t the right fit for you now, that is ok too. Please get in touch with any of us with thoughts or questions and thank you so much for your care of our dear Matt.
With love and gratitude,

A note from Matt:
Asking for help like this, or for help at all is very difficult for me--I am at a critical impasse and have been trying to figure out how to get the money together to go to this program. I've been struggling personally and hanging on for the past many months as I've been in a holding pattern of trying to stay functional while weathering the storms that trauma has brought on. I thank you with all my heart for any contribution you can make.
