Students need your help! Due to the required addition of a third chaperone and several students dropping out of the trip, the cost has increased by $400 per students. This unexpected increase has created stress and hardships for some of the students who are going. Please help us to make sure they can come and participate in this unique educational opportunity.
If you are just learning about the trip:
Black River and Green Mountain Schools will be participating in their French Immersion program this year. On November 4, students from Saint Gaudens, France arrived staying with local families and attending our school for two weeks. On March 13-28, 2015, a selection of students from both Black River and Green Mountain will be traveling to St. Gaudens to stay with the families of students who visited us. We will be attending their school, College Didier Daurat, the middle school in Saint Gaudens, while we are there. We participate in their classes and will be working on a group art project. College Didier Daurat and the town of St. Gaudens have developed a partnership with American artist, Jason Glasser. Currently working in Paris, the contemporary artist has agreed to come to St. Gaudens and work with the students on a contemporary art project for the town. During the trip, we will also be visiting local towns Toulouse and Carcassonne to learn about local history and architecture.
Before we return, we will spend four days and three nights in Paris. The group will take a night trip along the river Seine, visit Notre Dame, climb the Arc de Triompe, walk along the Champ d'Elysees and get crepes for lunch, and visit the top of the Eiffel Tower to get a beautiful night view of Paris. We are also trying to arrange for a group tour of the recently renovated Musee de Picasso and the art science phenomenon, Le Laboratoire.
The Immersion Exchange Program allows students to be immersed in the culture and language of another country. It is a unique educational opportunity that Black River and Green Mountain are able to provide due to our relationship with College Didier Daurat. It is not simply a tourist trip, it is a trip where students live and study with with their French counterparts. It provides a cultural experience that many of our students would not be exposed to if it weren't for this immersion exchange.
The cost per student was supposed to be $1,600, however, unexpected changes have raised the cost to $2,000 per student. Please support our students in having this life-changing experience.
