Nabila’s Stanford Dream
Donation protected
Hi Everyone,
My name is Nabila Zahra and I am currently a Computer Science sophomore at Habib University. I am a bright and ambitious student who has been selected for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the International Honors Program at Stanford University. However, the cost of this program is $17,596 (approximately 16,196 EUR) and I am unable to afford it on my own, so I am reaching out to you to help raise the funds I need to make my dream a reality.
I have always been a strong advocate for the environment and I believe in taking action to help save our planet. I also believe technology can be used for the good of our environment which is why I am pursuing a degree in computer science as I want to build technologies that can help save our planet. I co-founded The Last Earthlings, a non-profit organization in 2019 when I realized the pressing need for raising awareness in Pakistan about ocean pollution and climate change. Over the 4 years, we have organized 85 beach clean-ups, removed over 25 tons of trash from the coastlines of Karachi and impacted over 2000 individuals to become eco-conscious beings. We have also worked on collecting data on the trash found on the coastlines and analyzed the data to create data-driven impactful solutions. I wish to contribute to creating innovations that bring about a positive impact in this world.
Why do I wish to study at Stanford and my Goals?
Stanford University is located at the heart of Silicon Valley and it cultivates a culture of entrepreneurship, encouraging leadership, professional development and innovation. Experiencing this culture will set me on the path to becoming a successful entrepreneur and creating an impact in Pakistan. This opportunity will open doors for me and give me access to top experts, Silicon Valley and cutting-edge companies in the USA. I would be able to connect with global leaders and bright minds across the globe which would give me a different perspective on how they are handling the climate crisis issue and allow me to expand my organization internationally.
After I return from the Stanford Summer Session, my goal is to build AI technology to carry out extensive research on ocean plastic pollution through The Last Earthlings. This will help in measuring the impact of climate change on our ocean and what can be done to stop it. There is a strong need to combat climate change and the oceans play a significant role in our survival in this crisis, which is why I want to specifically focus on ocean conservation. I aim to derive data-driven solutions to the problem of ocean pollution through research and development, which will play a significant role in saving our planet. The skills and knowledge that I will gain at Stanford are crucial in accomplishing my goals and ambitions. Moreover, the connections and perspective I will gain will allow me to create innovations that would otherwise not be possible.
