Trying to establish a new living after loosing everything in a devastating fire

Liebe Freunde, Bekannte und Kunden von Brigitte Volkmann und Willy,

Dear all,

in dem verheerenden Brand bei Sao Teotonio / Odemira haben Brigitte Volkmann und ihr Lebensgefährte Willy alles verloren. Sie sind seit 1996 in Portugal und haben über die Jahre in Brejão ein altes Lehmhaus zu einem schönen Haus umgebaut, ein kleines Büro und eine Werkstatt selbst aufgebaut. Sie hatten wenig Geld und haben das alles mit eigenen Händen geschaffen. Brigitte arbeitet als selbstständige Dolmetscherin. Willis ganze Leidenschaft war der Korkeichenwald, den er in jahrelanger Arbeit von einem verwilderten Anwesen in einen gepflegten Wald verwandelt hat. Dieser Wald ist größtenteils verbrannt.

We have started a funding campaign for Brigitte and Willy, a German couple living in Portugal. They have just lost everything in a devastating wildfire here in the area of Sao Teotonio/Odemira in Portugal on Monday, 7th of August. The fire came very suddenly accelerated by strong winds and literally run through the house and left nothing except for the walls, broken windows, piles of tiles and ashes. They have no reserves or another home elsewhere. What they lost was not a holiday house, it was their dream little country house which they have been building with little money themselves over the years after moving to Portugal in 1996. Willy had a little workshop and was looking after the cork trees on their land. Working in the forest and maintaining it was his passion. Now the forest, the workshop and all his tools are destroyed by the fire.

Es gibt fast keine Deutschen in dieser Gegend, die Brigitte nicht schon unterstützt hätte. Nicht nur bei Übersetzungen, sondern auch in allen Angelegenheiten in Zusammenhang mit Ämtern, Notaren, Anwälten, Banken, Autoimporten und vielem mehr. Wir wären ohne Brigitte mit diesen oftmals sehr bürokratischen Dingen und Problemen meist aufgeschmissen gewesen.

Brigitte is a trained interpreter and there are only few people in this area who she did not help with translations and the necessary bureaucracy.

After loosing everything they had, they are now desperate to find ways to reorganise their life. It will need a lot of money to re-build the house. That’s why we want to help them generating some funds which would give them at least a bit of confidence in a possible future here in Portugal.

Nun haben sie alles verloren. Sie haben nichts mehr in Deutschland und jetzt auch nichts mehr in Portugal, siehe Fotos. Sie können von alleine nie mehr das Geld aufbringen, um sich Ihre Existenz hier erneut aufzubauen.
