NADINE NEEDS EMERGENCY NECK SURGERY asap

My name is Jasmine, and I've decided to start this go fund me on the behalf of my dearest friend Nadine Clements (Van Diermen). Nadine has been my best friend since our children were babies-16 years. We have been family since pretty much day one and you probably have heard us say ...we are very much best friend soulmates.

Over the last 3 years, Nadine has been on the waitlist for many neurosurgeons in BC due to a disc (c5/6) that has been pressing on her spinal cord. Due to COVID-19 and our understaffed medical system the wait time is INCREDIBLY longer than it should be. Nadine started having symptoms in 2019, and since she has already had a similar back surgery, she already knew what was going on. Nadine went immediately to the doctor and requested an MRI and neurosurgeon referrals. Since the MRI was going to take 9 months, and her dad lives in Mexico, she went and paid $350 for a private MRI in November 2019. Nadine has seen many doctors, but has been yet able to see a neurosurgeon in BC. Over the last 3+ yrs of waiting, she has been on numerous medications, trying to help control the extreme nerve pain, which started in her neck and shoulder, and its now in her arm, elbow and hand.

Nadine has hardly any use of her dominate hand (right) and is in so much constant pain, she decided to go back to Mexico last month to get another private MRI and see a neurosurgeon in Mexico to see how it has progressed, it has.... And to find out the cost and what type of surgery she will need. This being degenerate disc disease, it is genetic and her father has already had this surgery in Mexico and found relief.

Currently Nadine's disc is about 70% pressing on the spinal cord. I can't even imagine the pain that would cause. She is struggling big time, and although she doesn't show it, she is in extreme pain and often talks about not being able to live this way anymore.

Nadine is on all the cancellation lists and calls the neurosurgeons offices on a regular basis. She follows up with her family doctor monthly. The best answer she has got from Canadian neurosurgeons is that she will be seen in 2-3 months, and unfortunately getting into surgery will take longer (although they have told her that before many times). The neurosurgeon in Mexico has told Nadine she doesn't have a few months.

The risks are considerable the longer she waits with possible paralysation from the neck down, other discs moving, and more pain that's going to continue affecting her quality of life.

The neurosurgeon in Mexico said he could operate right away and that she needs the surgery yesterday.

If you know Nadine, really KNOW her. She has never hesitated to help anyone, her loved ones, even her acquaintances when in need!

Now it's OUR time to help her get this life changing surgery in Mexico right away.

The cost of the surgery is approx 15-18k CAD: They will go in from the front, move all the organs and replace the c5/6 disc with a titanium disc. The neurosurgeon states its non invasive and recovery time is short! The surgery is a low risk to being paralyzed or things going wrong thankfully. Physio is required (to get the neck moving again) and medications will be a few thousand dollars. Travel and expenses while recovering. Nadine can stay at her dads, so that will help with costs as well.

Nadine will continue to call the neurosurgeons here in Canada, but the chances of her getting in anytime soon is slim, while her condition progresses.

We love that our health care is free in Canada, but the medical system is understaffed and back logged due to COVID-19. Thankfully there is another avenue through a private clinic in other country.
