Sewing lessons and pads for kenyan schoolgirls
Donation protected
We sew reusable sanitary pads and distribute them to schoolgirls in Kenya. Menstruation is often still a taboo subject in society and many young women stay at home during their periods instead of attending classes. By talking to them about the topic and educating them, we hope to contribute to more education for financially disadvantaged schoolgirls. We also offer work camps where the girls can learn how to use a sewing machine and sew their own pads. These workcamps take place in the tailoring of the Ahero Resource Center, an renomated Community Based Organization near Lake Victoria. Unfortunately, the machines there are not actually owned by the center, they are just on loan from another organization. The contract will soon expire. As a learning center is to be set up at this location, where adults can also complete their tailoring training, it will need its own machines and materials. The courses will be offered at a greatly reduced price, so that even destitute women will have a chance at an independent future. For schoolgirls, it remains free of charge. The primary aim of this fundraising campaign is therefore to buy sewing machines and other important materials such as scissors, thread, needles etc. The donation target refers to the approximate amount of money needed to buy 5 electric and 6 manual sewing machines, as well as one overlock and one coverlock. We hope that we can offer many women and girls a perspective with this project. Thank you very much.
