Brittney Gilliam and Girls

I'm a PhD student, and I study the effects of trauma on our brains and bodies. I'm also a mother, a wife and a law-abiding citizen of the United States. I was DEVASTATED to see this family- Brittany Gilliam and her sweet nieces-FACEDOWN ON THE GROUND, handcuffed...even the SIX year old, sobbing and terrified as large, adult police searched their vehicle.
Brittany and her nieces were just driving to get their nails done when the police claimed to mistake their VAN for a stolen MOTORCYCLE. The police treated these small girls like adult, male threats to police lives. They forced them on their stomachs on the ground, handcuffed them and ignored their terrified cries. They declared Brittany was a "threat" when she asked them to let her comfort her poor nieces, who were begging for their mother. Aurora police traumatized these poor girls.
I'd like to support this family...to get the THERAPY they will need to move past this emotional and psychological brutalization...and finally, to just GET THEIR NAILS DONE.
Edit: I have learned that the Aurora PD offered to cover counseling for this family. I haven't been able to ascertain if this help is contingent upon Brittany withdrawing her lawsuit against the Aurora PD. Regardless, we're still showing support to this family. We see you and support you, Brittany and fam.
