Laura is trying desperately to save her home.

Our dear friend Laura Sorrells in Pickens County, Georgia has been suffering from Long Covid for more than four years. Some days are better than others, but some days, she can barely move, barely function. She’s a teacher, and has done her best to continue to serve in her calling, but her health makes many things impossible. Sometimes just taking out the garbage is more than her body can manage. She lost her health insurance when she had to give up teaching full time and has just been barely hanging on.

The generous donations to this campaign over the past year have made some things much easier and safer for her (she was able to get the roof fixed), but the “big fixes”, i.e. getting a ruling on permanent disability from the teachers’ retirement fund and some kind of medical breakthrough for dealing with Long Covid still haven’t happened. Her courage is flagging and she needs all the support we can muster for her, financial and spiritual. Can we ask again for your help?

From Laura yesterday:

“I need a bridge to getting disability from Teacher's Retirement. I have applied for that and it's likely to happen but I find i can't work more than a couple of days here and there without physically paying for it.
When I crash it's hard and brutal. I don't have insurance and my providers at the local clinic are helpful but they can only treat symptoms it seems. I have moderate to severe osteoarthritis that really limits my mobility.”

The problem is, being able to work here and there for a day or two does not pay the mortgage, or provide for basic necessities like a refrigerator or a washing machine. Imagine trying day after day to scale a mountain with a huge boulder on your back. Courage and will might gain you an inch or two, but the summit gets no closer and the boulder gets no lighter to carry. Sometimes it feels impossible to keep going.

Any financial help you can provide would be so greatly appreciated. If there are any legal minds out there who can advocate for her, or anyone with knowledge of any social service or medical organization that might offer any kind of solution, Laura could use that kind of help too.

Please help if you can.

“We can’t all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”
