Not sure where to even start this: How do we adequately convey this need, this plea for help?
To be fair, I guess we start at where we stepped in: Two weeks ago The GPCWP was called to see if we could help a young female and her pups.. Mom and pups have been living in absolute hellish conditions, with no care and very little food. As is true with so many rescues, we are at saturation and don’t have room or resources to help with more dogs coming in… But then the pictures started to arrive. The awful – heart wrenching pictures. Just when you think that you can’t dig ANY DEEPER, provide any more…. You see THIS, and you know you have to try, you have to find a way to help.. And we HAD TO.
First, we needed to reach out to see if we could find foster help, and to those of you and called in and agreed to help… we are immensely grateful, none of this could be accomplished without you. Once we were relatively secure that we had landing spots for Mom and crew - we started to work on getting them to the Vets as soon as possible and then to arrange transport. When we get Mom and her puppies to the Vets, they were sadly diagnosed with sarcoptic mange – an irritating, and painful mite that burrows under the skin, causing hair loss, inflamed tissue, unrelenting itching…. Momma dog and pups are absolutely miserable with this condition. Because of this illness, and how contagious it is, to both humans and other dogs, they will need to be quarantined for at least 3 to 4 weeks… So now, any foster plan that we had in place needed to be changed and revised.
We received Mom and her babies into our care on Friday. We give this family a few days to settle in - a chance to assess the situation and to figure out the needs of these precious souls…. So here we are now: Part of their care will involve ongoing Vet checks, medicated baths and shampoos, medication to relieve the itch and the skin inflammations, and supplements to bring their bodies back up to a healthier state. Beyond that we also have to use and wear disposable scrubs and gowns to tend, care give, and yes, even LOVE up on this poor family - or risk contracting this mange ourselves or bringing it home to our pet family.
All of this is a costly, COSTLY endeavor, but we are determined to help this family and give them the life that they deserve, and we are hopeful that you can help us do that. Can you please consider giving a donation towards this worthy cause for Mom and her beautiful babies.
PLEASE.
God Bless you and yours.
