Nanaimo needs a new Pride mural!
In an act of hate, Nanaimo's only two pieces of 2SLGBTQ+ public art have been targeted and defaced with black paint: our beloved rainbow crosswalks, and the Pride mural on Wallace Street. We believe that the best way to counter those who try to tear our beautiful rainbow family down is by creating BIGGER, BRIGHTER displays of our PRIDE! We are asking for your help to fundraise for the cost of a new permanent pride movement mural that will be painted as a community collaboration.
The City of Nanaimo will be taking care of the crosswalk repair, but unfortunately, the Pride mural and wall will not stand up to a repair and can't be saved. As this building is slated for demolition and development in the future, we would like to refocus the community's efforts and resources on a new, more permanent project.
We know this is a hard time for folks and deeply appreciate any contribution you can make towards the supplies and costs of this new piece. Once things get rolling, we will be sharing info on how to get involved in the project through our socials @humanityinart and local media.
Thanks, from your friends at Humanity In Art
