Nancy’s Story:
On Sunday August 26th, our lives were forever changed when we lost Nancy Bergeron, the most selfless, kindhearted mother and wife, in her courageous battle against cancer.
Nancy was diagnosed with stage III (non-operable)lung cancer last summer. From the start, we knew she would be fighting a losing battle. However, despite the outlook, Nancy surprised us all with tremendous bravery and determination to keep providing for her family. None of us could imagine a life without her so we prayed for a miracle as she underwent radiation and two courses of chemotherapy. We could never be more proud of her for choosing to fight as hard as she could, for as long as she could, but our options were limited. The treatments were ineffective and the cancer spread. When the pain and sickness became too much, She chose to live out the remainder of her life as comfortable as she could, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Finally, it was our turn to take care of her.
Nancy worked as a hairstylist at Hair in Motion in Marblehead for 32 years, but outside of her work her true passion was being a loving wife and mother. And she sure was good at it!
Jim loved Nancy from the first moment he saw her. He may have had to steal her car keys to get her to agree to a first date, but he eventually won her over. They married in Hawaii in 1988, and have shared 42 wonderful and exciting years together. Nancy would say Jim was the type of guy to pose a tough-guy exterior, but to her he was a big, protective teddy bear. Jim will forever say that Nancy was the best thing to ever happen to him and he would never let anybody hurt her.
Nancy was a mother to her son, Jimmy and daughter Nicole. Words cannot describe how much she loved her children. There is absolutely nothing in the world she wouldn’t do for them. She always mentioned how she was so lucky to have such good kids that never gave her any trouble. In reality, we were the lucky ones, to be blessed with having her as our mom. She was selfless and took care of us all of these years and we will never be able to thank her enough for that. She showed us what it felt like to be loved unconditionally.
Karen, a close friend of Nancy, came up with the idea of setting up a memorial bench near the lighthouse at Chandler Hovey Park in Marblehead MA. In telling her story, it was instantly approved. This was a place we had all visited as a family to listen to the ocean waves and see the sunset. Nancy will forever be in our thoughts and memories, but we wanted a special place for all who knew Nancy to be able to visit and be a part of. This page is for anyone who would like to contribute to her memorial. All contributions will go towards the construction of the bench, and any additional contributions will be put towards her services and annual upkeep of the bench.
Thank you to anyone who chooses to be a part of this with us, it is not about the money, but for the memory of Nancy Bergeron.
We will never stop thinking of you. We love you!
