Nancy Dixon's Battle Against Her Glioblastoma
Donation protected
Nancy Dixon never knew that 2019 was going to be so eventful and truly life changing. The year has brought so many ups and downs for her and her family. On March 11th, 2019, Nancy had a seizure in the middle of the night and was rushed to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. An MRI revealed a Low-Grade Glioma Brain Tumor.
On March 25th, 2019, she underwent her first brain surgery and partial resection of the tumor. The biopsy results stated that the Low-Grade Glioma Brain Tumor was benign, with no future treatment, other than MRI monitoring, being required.
Nancy recovered at home in April, and in early May she returned to work. Two days after her return to work, Nancy became extremely ill and was hospitalized for six days with Meningitis. On May 29th, Nancy and her family traveled to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, for consultation and a second opinion. The Neuro-Oncologist did not find anything conclusive, but simply wanted to move forward with monitoring quarterly MRI scans.
In early June, Nancy again returned to work, was taking each day as it came, and was grateful to be on the road to recovery. On July 8th, 2019, Nancy experienced two more seizures and was admitted to the hospital. An MRI showed that the mass on her brain had grown. Immediately she was scheduled for brain surgery. However, this time the biopsy results were life changing. Nancy was diagnosed with a Grade IV Glioblastoma Multiforme. It is a very aggressive type of cancerous brain tumor that has no cure.

Since that day, Nancy has not stopped putting one foot in front of the other. She underwent six straight weeks of oral chemotherapy and daily radiation treatments. Toward the end of her radiation treatments, in late September, she was notified that she would not be able to return to her job of 28 years, where she passionately cared for infants at a major hospital child care center. Nancy also carried health insurance through her employer for both her and Scott. Changes in insurance, jobs and with COVID restrictions they have continued to have one challenge after the next.
Nancy and Scott keep in close touch with her doctors at MD Anderson and travel there when they need to.
Nancy most recently had a focal seizure caused by swelling near her tumor. She will begin taking steroids to help ease the swelling. Scott has also recently taken a leave from his job to be her full time caregiver. (true act of love---I love their story and how they care for each other). During this past year Scott has also had numerous medical issues and his bills are coming due now too. Double whammy!
If you can find it in your heart, please help one of the sweetest people I have ever met, by contributing to Nancy’s fight against this cancer. Nancy and Scott are both trying to support and provide for their boys, Zach, Joey, and Alex. They strive to enjoy any time spent together as a family. But the financial challenges are real.
Most importantly, please keep Nancy and her entire family in your thoughts and prayers. This new Go Fund Me has been created as the other site had become very challenging and was not allowing individuals to donate.
In the season of giving...let's help Nancy, Scott and their boys feel our love by donating $20 to $100. Whatever you can do, really does help!
