Help Nancy Montgomery beat Leukemia
Donation protected
I'm Sally, Nancy Montgomery's sister and I am asking for your help. On January 14, 2023, after a full day at work, my sister Nancy went home and had a sudden onset of pain. I had just had lunch with her the day before and yet I found myself driving Nancy to the emergency room with her pain uncontrollable. After blood tests, the ER doctors immediately admitted Nancy to the hospital saying she was fighting some sort of major infection. The next day Nancy had a bone marrow biopsy, was moved to the oncology unit, and just days later was given the devastating diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. We also learned that Nancy's pain had been caused by sepsis, which likely started with a mild kidney infection, and because she had no immune system, it went out of control into sepsis.
Life changes so quickly and it certainly has for Nancy and all those who love her. She is expected to be in the hospital for over a month for initial treatment. She has been through 24/7 chemotherapy in her first weeks in the hospital, blood transfusions, bone marrow biopsies, nausea, mouth sores, a fire-red rash over her whole body, an IV pole that seemed like it could not take one more bag, and so much more. So so much to hear, learn, absorb, and for Nancy, to find the strength to fight.
She was just given the news that she will likely need a bone marrow transplant to get her Leukemia into remission. She will likely be in and out of the hospital for 9 months to a year, or maybe more to get into remission.
Such a long journey ahead and such a fight. Nancy needs every bit of strength she has, and strength that she will learn she has, to fight and kick cancer to the curb.
The last thing Nancy needs to use her strength for is worrying about money needed to get bills paid. Sadly those things don't care if you are fighting cancer. Nancy is the only income earner in the household and will not beable to work during treatment. Just last year her husband had a brain bleed and multiple brain surgeries that left him with significant neurological damage, and unable to return to work.
Nancy needs your help to fight and win this battle against Leukemia. Would you please help? All amounts will help reach the goal. If you are a client of Nancy's please consider donating a portion, half, or the whole amount you might have given Nancy for your hair appointments this year. Do you have cans and bottles in your garage or money in your bottle drop account that you could donate? Could you challenge others to give an amount and match their donation? Could you do a small fundraiser with your friends while playing bunco or having a progressive dinner party? All of us working together can get us to the goal of getting Nancy the peace of mind to know she only needs to concentrate and think about getting well.
With much gratitude, Sally
