Nancy Penn's Stroke Recovery

My mom, Nancy Penn, had a significant ischemic stroke on September 20th.  An ischemic stroke is caused by a blockage in an artery within the brain, usually caused by a blood clot. Nancy was rushed to West Allis Memorial Hospital where she underwent a CT scan showing she likely had the stroke days prior. Therefore, they were not able to use the typical clot busting medicines. The doctor diagnosed her with Global Aphasia which has affected her ability to communicate like she normally would. It seems as though she is aware of what is going on but cannot communicate very much. 

Nancy is currently back in the hospital after a post stroke seizure, which has caused a setback in her ability to speak and comprehend.  She will start over in an in-patient rehab facility soon.  Eventually she will either go home requiring significant care or enter a long term care facility.

My mom was a single mother of my brother and I. She worked many years as a Human resource manager. Most recently she worked with the Democratic Party of Milwaukee County as the Recording Secretary. Those that know her know how passionately she fought for the citizens of Milwaukee though the party.  Sadly, this medical tragedy will affect her ability to work, drive, and perform everyday tasks. 

I have started this GoFundMe Campaign to help with her medical expenses and general financial support (mortgage, bills, rehab, groceries, ect.) as she recovers. We anticipate her long-term medical expenses will surpass our initial financial goal. We are hopeful that this campaign will help alleviate some of her  financial burden, so she can recover with minimal stress.
