Our family is reaching out to ask you to join us in supporting our sister, Nancy Witt.

Many of you may know Nancy from her twenty years of being an exceptional seventh-grade science teacher in Clinton, first at Lyons Junior High and then at Washington Junior High. During her career she received many awards, including the “Teacher of the Year” award, for the opportunities that she gave to her students. She enjoyed seeing their eyes light up when they found science interesting, and many students rekindled their love for learning. She encouraged and supported her “kids” through real live biology specimens in the form of a hedgehog, iguanas, spiders, fish, birds and even a potbellied pig for a while! Students knew that she would open her classroom early for those who liked to help with cleaning the animal pens for camaraderie or maybe a bite of breakfast or a snack. She even convinced a few of us family members to help her with an interactive “Who dun it” where the fictional town of Fruitvale had problems with their water supply. Another time she warned us not to go through the caution tape that was there for a crime scene. She loved science and loved bringing it to life. Another project was helping students build their own solar car and then helping them race it!

Outside of school, Nancy ran a teen club at the YMCA, and engaged kids with team building and playing fast-paced games of dodgeball. In addition, in her free time, she and her family volunteered at the Victory Center preparing and serving meals to the homeless of Clinton.

What many of you may not know is that Nancy’s husband, Dennis, passed away unexpectedly in February. Then in July, she was diagnosed with advanced stage cancer. She has had two surgeries and has been receiving both medical and holistic/comfort care treatments while seeking God’s grace. That is why we are asking for your help.

Maybe you were her student, a parent, a fellow teacher, a school employee, a teen club member, a teen club parent, or helped Nancy make food and serve the people of Clinton. Perhaps you are a family member or close friend. We are asking for your prayers and financial assistance.

All money raised will go toward future treatments and gas money for her two daughters, Rachael and Courtney, to get her to and from treatments.

Thank you and God bless you!
