Help Support Nancy Solinger

Donation protected
This is Nancy & Bill Solinger. Nancy is my mother-in-law. She is a wife, a mother of 2, and a grandmother to 4 beautiful girls. About 3 weeks ago Nancy started to feel sick and act strangely. She had severe headaches, became disoriented, and felt extremely fatigued. Her husband Bill thought it was a reaction to mold because she had an episode 3 years ago with very similar symptoms. Over the past 3 weeks Nancy has had good days and bad days, with this past Thursday being one of her better days. However, on Friday, September 4th she experienced her worst symptoms yet. Her headache was terrible and she began vomiting and convulsing. Bill immediately called 911 and Nancy was rushed to Indiana Hospital and put on a ventilator. The doctors told Bill they were not equipped to deal with her condition and that she needed to go to Pittsburgh.

She was Life Flighted to a UPMC hospital and doctors performed a procedure as soon as she arrived. It turns out she had a brain aneurysm with an enormous amount of bleeding. Doctors believe the aneurysm occurred 3 weeks ago, but that a hematoma (blood clot) was formed which is why it seemed like she was having some better days. The blood clot most likely released on Friday causing the vomiting and convulsing. Her doctors don't know how she made it to Indiana Hospital let alone UPMC. Both of her parents died from brain aneurysms so she is very lucky to be alive.

We got to see her late last night after she was admitted to Neurovascular ICU. She had tubes in her skull that continued to drain blood, part of her head was shaved and she was hooked up to an EEG machine, a breathing tube was in her mouth, and a tube was draining fluid from her stomach. It was not easy to see her in that state.

She moved around a bit when we were talking to her which was comforting, but she did not open her eyes.

She had an angiogram this morning and the aneurysm was treated for the time being using a metal coil. There is a possibility of a vasospasm occurring, which is the narrowing of an artery if leaked blood touches it. It can happen up to 14 days after an aneurysm bleeds and can be fatal so she is not out of the woods yet.

It is unclear how much damage was caused due to the amount of swelling and blood on the brain. We don't know if she will have minimal issues or if she will have mental or physical disabilities coming out of this. She will remain in NICU for a minimum of 2 weeks, but possibly longer once doctors are able to get more information on her prognosis.

It is going to be a long road for Nancy, but we as a family will do everything we can to support her. Unfortunately, Bill and Nancy cannot afford health insurance so they are going to be hit with a great deal of medical expenses. We believe expenses will be well over $200,000 so it is our hope that we can help provide financial support through a variety of sources like Go Fund Me and a possible benefit. Any help is greatly appreciated. Whether or not you are able to support her financially, we also ask that you pray. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
