Nao Bee Moua’s open heart surgery

Donation protected
Dear friends and family,

Our father is many things, but above all he is a dad, grandpa, brother, husband, friend, and shaman. For over 40 years he has helped serve and heal people in our community as a shaman. We can’t imagine how difficult it is for him to be on the other end now as the one who needs help.

At the start of 2018 our father began to fall ill. Our father started feeling very weak, fatigue, and had increasing shortness of breath. He had many doctor visits but none were able to determine the cause of his sickness.

In 2020 we found out that he was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease. At this point our father's fatigued body would not allow him to work and he was forced to retire early. He would spend the next several months in and out of the emergency room for his weakness and shortness of breath.

In April of 2021 during an abdominal CT scan a large 7cm mass was found in his left kidney. Our father was diagnosed with Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) a rare, serious, chronic inflammatory disorder of the kidney. The only way to save his life was to have his entire left kidney removed, so we agreed to the surgery. The surgery was successfully but our father was hospitalized for a month due to ongoing complications from the infection.

We thought our father was in the clear until in late September 2022 when he underwent a repeat nuclear stress test. Here they found that our father has 5 clogged arteries in his heart, one of which is 100% clogged. The test showed that he had already suffered a silent heart attack without anyone knowing.

On October 26th, 2022 our father will undergo open heart surgery where they will do a four vessel coronary artery bypass on him. It was discovered that our father also has Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HCM). A genetic mutation that causes the heart muscle to thicken and can cause shortness of breath, chest pain, and sudden death. This heart disease has been contributing to our father's overall sickness.

During our father's open heart surgery they will also make an additional incision into his heart and shave off the overgrown muscle (septal myectomy). Afterward, he will need cardiac rehab for at least 2 months. We hope that this will be the last of his hospitalization and ongoing decline.

It has been a long and hard journey for both of our parents. Our parents are hardworking immigrants who have always found a way to make ends meet. They have never asked for help, but today we, their children, are asking for your help as they are no longer able to financially sustain this hardship. Our parents have accrued roughly $14,000 in medical debt from previous hospitalizations and specialist appointments for more than 4 years. The money they receive from you will go towards medical bills that are not covered by health insurance, travel expenses, food while hospitalized, and medication costs. Any donation big or small will be greatly appreciated. For those who can't donate, phone calls and words of encouragement are also equally meaningful. Thank you for your love and support.
