Natalia Lisitza - In Memoriam

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Natalia Lisitza, born in 1973, to a family of distinguished scholars and educators. Natalia's life was one of exceptional dedication, intellect, and compassion.

Natalia's academic journey unfolded impressively. She graduated from high school in Siberia in 1990 with a silver medal and pursued her education with unmatched dedication. Her quest for learning led her to Novosibirsk State University, where she graduated with the highest honors in 1995, excelling not only academically but also in character. In her fifth year at NSU, Natalia embarked on an academic adventure, conquering new horizons in graduate studies in the United States at the University of Illinois in Chicago and later at Princeton University in New Jersey.

After completing her PhD dissertation at Princeton in 2002, Natalia's brilliance continued to flourish. Her journey took her across states and institutions, from the Princeton Physics Department, Schlumberger Research, the University of Virginia, and the California Institute of Technology to the illustrious halls of Harvard Medical School, where she ascended from a Research Scientist to become an Assistant Professor. She authored and co-authored 72 scientific publications and books. Her dedication to her work was paralleled only by her unwavering love for her family.

Natalia's interests extended beyond academia. Fluent in four languages and possessing a profound appreciation for classical music, art, and literature, she embodied a holistic view of life. Her memory was a treasure trove of knowledge, with the ability to recite Pushkin's 'Eugene Onegin' by heart, exemplifying her remarkable intellect and love for culture.

Natalia faced challenges with unwavering strength. Battling a formidable illness, she displayed astonishing resilience, a testament to her remarkable spirit. Her journey from Novosibirsk in Siberia to the hallowed halls of Harvard was one of triumph over adversity, proving that her character was as exceptional as her achievements.

Natalia's profound impact extended beyond her academic pursuits. A loving daughter and cherished family member, she leaves behind a grieving father who loved her deeply and a legacy that will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.

As we bid farewell to a brilliant mind and a loving soul, we remember Natalia Lisitza with utmost respect, admiration, and affection. Her memory will forever shine brightly in the tapestry of our lives.
