Help Natalie rebuild her life after a fire

My name is Barbara, and I am fundraising for my sister, Natalie, who lives in Surrey, British Columbia. Natalie lost her home and its contents on November 18th and has no insurance. She was out for just 1.5 hours when she received a call that her house was on fire.

Fortunately, Natalie and her cat are unharmed, and a friend has helped with a temporary place to stay. However, everything she owned was destroyed.

Natalie is a big-hearted, fun-loving person who wears her heart on her sleeve. She raised her two children as a single mother. She struggled, often working 2 jobs to give her children lots of fun experiences and did her best to ensure they did not miss out.

My sister has suffered immensely in the last few years. Tragically, Natalie's 19 year old son, Andrew, died in a motorcycle accident in 2018, which left Natalie shattered. She struggled to make sense of life. Natalie felt lost in the home she had shared with her son, so she packed everything she owned and moved back to Ottawa to be close to family. After less than a year, she realized she needed to be near her daughter, Marley, and all the friends she had made in BC over 30 years of living there. So she packed up again and returned to BC.

Natalie was finally feeling settled in her tiny home, when we discovered our mother had metastatic cancer. Natalie travelled back and forth to support our mother until her death in August this year.

Now devastatingly, fire has taken her home and everything else she owned. She did manage to retrieve her son’s ashes.

Natalie is self-employed, and her work laptop and tools are gone. With no insurance, it will be challenging to start over. She will need to get everything, including a place to live, pay for the fire services expenses and remove the debris.
