Natalie's Half Marathon for VPS
In 2016 I was diagnosed with Vulvodynia.
"Vulvodynia is persistent, unexplained pain in the vulva (the skin surrounding the entrance to the vagina)." https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vulvodynia/
As many as 16% (https://www.nva.org/media-center/) of women suffer from this distressing and debilitating condition which can occur for many reasons, in my case nerve damage that resulted in chronic pain and then dysaesthesia which could last for years or decades. Luckily I am managed with strong medication and that has enabled me to live a 'normal' life with some limitations. This is sadly not always the case for some sufferers and resources for support are scant and underfunded.
The Vulval Pain Society was the first website I was directed to on my diagnosis and they are under funded and receive very little support. I have been lucky to be able to still run through some of my illness and have advocated that exercise (if i am at all able) will help my condition. I am therefore going to try and run a half marathon on the 8th of July (https://www.castletriathlonseries.co.uk/the-series/festival-of-endurance/) at Hever Castle. Any support you can give will make a huge difference to the Vulval Pain Society so please give generously.
