Nate Thomas' Funeral Expenses

Donation protected
I am sad to say that today, July 11th, Nate passed away. We are devasted by this loss. We truly hoped and prayed he would pull through this. We weren't naive to think that Nate would return to 100% his old self, but we thought over time, we could regain, to some extent, the Nate we all love. He struggled over these last 10 months. Many different complications, but he was still here. We wouldn't give up hope for him. It was a surprise, as he was seeming more stable.
This is a difficult time. I hope we can come together and help Nate's family with raising some money to help with them with funeral and related expenses. I know times are tight. Anything is appreciated. Thank you so much, Jolynn.

On 10th October 2022, my brother Nathan had a severe asthma attack that led to cardiac arrest. After a 911 mishap and EMS going to the wrong address, Nathan was unresponsive. He stopped breathing, and his heart stopped beating. He was intubated, and CPR commenced. After 40 minutes, he was sent off to the hospital.
In a coma and in the ICU, Nathan was placed on a ventilator and then acquired pneumonia and a catheter-acquired UTI.

Doctors have only told us he suffered a severe anoxic brain injury, and sadly, our Nathan will never fully recover from his brain injury and that we should withdraw life support.

Nathan is facing all this without adequate medical care or financial support, causing significant barriers to his access to treatment and, ultimately, his recovery. The unfortunate news is that insurance will not cover Neuro rehabilitation because he is over the age of 20. The hospital/rehabilitation financial assistance/charity care is only available to those residing in the state where the facility is located.

We are hopeful that with rehabilitation therapies, Nathan can recover, but there will be some measurable challenges he faces that we deeply want to support him with.

Without a doubt, the outcomes for patients who can self-fund their rehabilitation or have rehabilitation facilities in their state are far greater than for those who cannot or don't have access to the type of care needed for their specific injury. His family has to plan for facilitating the best possible life that Nathan may be able to have going forward and enabling his extensive rehabilitation.

If you know Nathan, you know that asking for help from his friends is not without immense consideration and care. He is someone who walks with people through incredible diversity and still moves with the lightest of hearts. This past year has challenged Nathan to capacity and beyond.

So, I am reaching out to ask for your support in helping this devastated family with Nathan's rehabilitation and recovery. It will include years of neurological rehabilitation at a specialist hospital in another state, intensive physical therapy, speech therapy, specialist equipment, home adaptations, and so much more.

Our family would be extremely touched and grateful for your kindness, support and generosity.

We hope to start treatment as soon as possible because the prognosis for people who can start rehabilitation sooner than later recover better than those who do not.
