Nathan Blacker Recovery Fund
Saturday morning, August 29, Nathan was bike riding with his son Zac on a trail near their house. His front tire got stuck in wet grass causing him to flip over the handlebars and land on his head. After being rushed to the local hospital in an ambulance, it was established that his neck was broken.
An update from Lizi Dorff Blacker wrote, "This is truly a miracle. The neurosurgeon said that people don't walk away from this kind of injury."
Due to the seriousness of the break, he needed to be flown via Life Flight to a higher level of care hospital, 90 minutes away in Oklahoma City. After enduring an intense 5 hour neurosurgery on Saturday afternoon, it is projected that Nathan will be in the hospital for at least a week. His recovery will be extensive, requiring time and physical therapy.
If you have ever been graced with the friendship of the Blackers, you have likely shared a meal around their handmade-by-Nathan table, enjoyed Lizi's cooking (sometimes adventurous!), and been showered by laughter from their five children: Zac (11), Katie (10), Alice (8), Ellie (6), Ava (2). You have witnessed the extreme love that exists in their home through both parents' attentiveness to their children and each other. This family loves to camp, hike, play, create, and read together. They worship and sing and pray together. Nathan will quickly become one of the top 3 most patient people you may ever meet. He is the perfect calm to their family’s joyful chaos.
Nathan is the sole provider for his family. This summer, he graduated medical residency and started as a Family Practice Doctor in Lawton, Oklahoma. The cost associated with Life Flight, neurosurgery, a stay in the hospital, and physical therapy, will be a significant financial burden. If you would like to help, please donate to this GoFundMe or (link) the family directly @BlackerMedicalFund. A donation of $100 or even $1 can help to ease the worries of this beloved family. Your generosity is appreciated.
