What will you remember most about Nathan Gettel? Like you, I have so many things that will forever be etched in my heart. It's hard to forget someone that always tried to make everyone around him smile.
If I had to choose only one word to describe Nathan, it would be "life". Nathan was full of life. He did everything he could to live each day to the fullest. I've never met anyone that had such a desire to gain every bit of happiness, laughter, and excitement from each day. He literally searched for adventure and when you were around him, that excitement for life was contagious! He found beauty in hammocks and stars and never met a stranger. He encouraged people to, "Just Show Up" and always searched for new ways to do that in his own life. He was never lacking for a story to share and would light up when given the chance to share his stories with friends.
Nathan had the courage and desire to live a life packed full of adventure as he chased his dreams. I think he had that courage because he experienced the unconditional love and support of his family every day growing up. Brinda, Kevin, Tommy and Brad nurtured his free spirit and showed him unwavering love and support his entire life. Now it's time we all "Just Show Up" for his family. Any money raised from this campaign will go directly to his parents, Brinda and Kevin Gettel, to help with Nathan's final expenses. Let's show up for his parents. Let's show them, remind them, how loved they are.
In one of my last correspondence with Nathan he spoke of his childhood church, Faith Lutheran in Corsicana. He said, "In my heart, Faith will always be home." In that church, Nathan grew up hearing how much he was loved not just by his family but most of all by his Savior. God bless Nathan; he is home.
