Nathan Sparks medical journey

My name is Cindy Corson...I am not one to normally seek help from Go Fund Me however due to recent cancer cases in my immediate family I feel compelled to help in any way I can. Just as important as donations are the positive thoughts, prayers and well wishes spread here.

This Go Fund Me is to help my daughter, Alyssa Sparks and her husband Nathan. Many of you know that in 2006 Alyssa, at the age of 29, was diagnosed with a rather aggressive breast cancer for which she had treatment. In 2009 she received the devastating news that breast cancer had returned. She had more invasive surgeries and treatments. While they had health insurance.......the co-pays, deductibles, and out of pocket costs bankrupted them. I tell this history to understand the path that Alyssa will now walk with Nathan as he lovingly did with her.

Nathan has been diagnosed with Laryngeal cancer. He had surgery in Iowa City on 4/26 removing most of the cancer but they were not able to get clear margins. Lymph node involvement is not yet known. While the oncologist in Ia City will visit with them further on 5/12, it appears at a minimum there will be daily radiation for 6 weeks. While they are working with the oncologist to determine if this can be done in Fort Dodge, it appears the nearest recommended location may be Des Moines. While they have good health insurance there will be travel expenses, co-pays, deductibles and out of pocket expenses once again. As Alyssa says, it is almost harder to watch someone you love go through this than going through it physically yourself. You just want to fix it......and you just can't.
