Nat'l Champ Brian Singelais has a heart and is in rehab

Donation protected

UPDATE

Brian is a strong man to say the least!
He's been at Tuft's Hospital since January and is now at Spaulding Rehabilitation where he will learn how to walk and learn how to swallow food again.
It's absolutely amazing what he has been through, but he keeps his head up high knowing his friends and family support him with so much love and funds.

I cannot imagine what the hospital bills look like.

Please donate if you can
Brian has been moving in a positive direction daily and continues to move forward.
Being in a hospital bed for months takes its toll on the human body. Brian stood out of bed for the first time just last week with the aid of two people. Yes, first time out of bed since January! He is estimated to take 6 months to a year of rehabilitation!!

The Singelais family still needs our help!

Thank you for your time.

GREAT NEWS!

On Friday night, February 2nd, the Singelais family was made aware that a heart matching Brian's need's became available. It took a lot of preparation on Saturday and the operation to replace Brian's heart began very early Sunday morning at 1am and I am so happy to say, according to the doctors, the surgery went well but we're not out of the woods yet. He is still in a fragile state for the next few days, so please keep him and his family in your prayers. Brian will now begin the long road to recovery.

UPDATE! This news comes from Sarah, Brian's wife.
"Update on Brian Singelais Sr. We are doing good. They removed 1 of the chest tubes today and hope to remove another tomorrow. They lowered the ECMO machine that he is on. And did an ECHO on him. Said both sides of the heart are now functioning correctly. The results of the biopsy came back with NO signs of rejection. All stats look great too. "

This is great news and they'll need your help now more than ever. I can't imagine what their medical bills are going to look like.

WE ALL HAVE THE POWER TO HELP BRIAN AND HIS FAMILY. Please donate today. I cannot imagine what the bills are going to look like when they start rolling in.

I've known Brian for more than 20 years and I consider him to be one of the kindest, gentlest people I know. He is a devoted, loving husband and father to 4 children.
I feel the need to raise money for Brian and his family so they can be by Brian's side, in Boston, as he recovers from a heart transplant. Let's face it... Boston is the most expensive city to stay at a hotel in New England and countless nights are in their future.
The Singelais family will also be in need of financial help when the medical bills come rolling in, so please, if you can, donate and share this page for Brian and his loving family. If you Google how much a heart transplant cost, it would set ANY family back. It's a staggering $1,664,800 before insurance

From Rhiannon Ford

Hi, my name is Rhiannon and this fundraiser is for someone very important in many of our lives- Brian Singelais, Sr. Brian is a friend, a mentor, a brother, a father, and a new husband who needs our support more than ever right now.

After a cruise last spring, Brian was evaluated at the hospital with multiple symptoms including swelling, shortness of breath, and fatigue. Brian was admitted to the hospital, tested and treated for his symptoms, and then discharged home. Brian felt better for a short period before repeating this process over and over until he was finally diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure and Amyloidosis- a rare condition that behaves, and is treated, similarly to cancer.

This summer, Brian began chemotherapy and was accepted into a study where he met with providers regularly, had frequent testing, and underwent chemotherapy. This required Brian to take a medical leave from work and multiple periods of time off for Brian's wife, Sarah, for the trips into Boston to attend Tufts for appointments and treatments. The short-term goal was to be well enough to be home (instead of admitted to the hospital) and attend his wedding scheduled for October 14, 2023.

Brian was successful in meeting his short-term goal and was surrounded by friends and family from across the state and country as he shared vows with Sarah. It was a beautiful day with warm weather, shared laughs, and plenty of dancing.

It was not long after the wedding that Brian began to get worse, with the periods of time between hospitalizations and symptoms getting shorter, instead of longer. Brian was admitted to the hospital indefinitely after Christmas for continued monitoring and treatments. Only recently did Brian and his family learn that Brian's treatment is no longer working- Brian will need a heart transplant. Despite remaining at Tuft's for round-the-clock care, Brian has continued to get worse and is now admitted to the CCU, where he will stay until he receives a new heart.

As I said in the beginning, Brian is many things to many people. First and foremost- he is an excellent father to son, Brian Jr (and future father-in-law to Stef), daughter, Brittany and stepfather to Liam and Makala. He is a brother, an uncle, a nephew, and cousin. He is a new husband to wife, Sarah. He is a friend to many and a stranger to none. He is also a truck driver and has positively influenced and impacted the trucking industry in many ways. In addition to being a safe driver and trainer, Brian has successfully competed in multiple state and national level championships. To those of you familiar with National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC) or the St. Jude's Charity Challenge, I'm sure Brian is a familiar face, a cheerleader, and a friend.

Brian and his family need us now, more than ever: medical expenses, gas expenses, the cost of a hotel in Boston so that family can remain close, and countless other expenses have started to take their toll. In this economy where two-income families are struggling, Brian's family has become reliant on nearly one income and their savings. Instead of using gift money received at their wedding for a vacation or any new purchase, they are having to use it just to stay in the positive.

Anything you offer will help Brian and his family- even if it's only a positive thought or prayer. It would be a gift to be able to ensure his family can remain close to him as he waits for his new heart and to relieve his financial stress and worry when he should be worrying only about getting better. All funds will be used to support him and his family through this difficult time, which has no definitive timeline due to being a name on a list.

Thank you for all of your support.
