National Tech Honors Society Startup
Donation protected
Hello my name is Tyler Ferro and I am the computers/programming teacher at Coral Glades High School. A few students and I recently started a new club called National Tech Honors Society and it has grown so much in the past month from 12 members to over 80. We are built around providing students different opportunities to improve their leadership, career, tech and overall communication skills.
Since we are a new club and only a month old, we would use the fund to hit the ground running. We have so many ideas and goals we want to accomplish and we want to get started as soon as possible. Our main project this year would be"Careerfest"- Where companies could come out and advertise their workers and overall business, guest speakers representing non-profits, photo booth, interactive stations, colleges, etc. Also bring in aspects of the medical field, video gamers, entrepreneurship, engineering, digital design, etc. Students and community members can come to learn about various STEM degrees, and career opportunities. Little kids could come as well so board games, crafts, and other interactive stations will be set up. We have high expection and goals so any donation would help us reach our them!
Our club consists of 5 different committees and each one is run by a student manager:
Career Development: The Career Development Committee will work to organize events and projects that will allow their fellow NTHS members to learn more about and prepare for their future careers.
- Resume development workshops.
- Mock interview event
- LinkedIn profile creation workshop
- Career fair/meet the employer.
- Etc.
Leadership: The Leadership Committee will focus on events and projects that give their chapter members valuable leadership experiences.
- Team-building activities at kickoff meetings
- Regular chapter leadership development activities
- Guest speakers
- Chapter leader training
- Leadership development workshops and events
Recognition: The Recognition Committee will serve to help organize their chapter’s NTHS Induction. Students in this committee will likely be selected at the end of the previous school year.
- Design and distribute nomination letters
- Design and distribute induction invitations
- Assist in planning, organizing, and running a fall and a spring NTHS induction
- Acknowledge members accomplishments throughout the year
Service: The Service Committee functions to coordinate projects that give back to the local community. Students in this committee will collaborate and plan service events throughout the year.
- Skill-based service projects (ex. digital media students producing a promotional video for a local non-profit, etc.) Helping at different school events.
- Community needs-based projects.
- Annual holiday service projects
- Social Media for the club
Executive: This committee consists of our amazing officers who are the main representatives of the club and make sure everything is running smoothly.
Our club is up and coming, but we are striving to make a huge impact at Coral Glades High School and the surrounding community. The students are truly committed to continue to grow the club as much as possible!
