Native American friend NEEDS HELP WITH REPAIRS

Hi, we all have moments in life where we feel compelled to JUST DO SOMETHING TO HELP! Most of us have had times in our lives that we need help and we don't want to ask or don't want anyone to know. Here is one such occasion and no amount is too small, SERIOUSLY!!

I have a friend, JJ Otero, that I met because he is a talented maker of stunning Navajo contemporary jewelry. I look for authentic jewelry because too many times there are cheap knockoffs overseas that try and undercut with cheap prices, taking work and food from these Indigenous families.

JJ helps support his family in addition to his own expenses. His father is 83 years old and lives in a mobile home from the 1970's. It has no central heat and the insulation under the floor is deteriorated or missing because the underbelly is long gone to where it doesn't help anymore. Although they didn't ask anyone, the family could use help getting it insulated so the temperatures are more comfortable during the winter and summer changes. JJ's father committed his life to teaching Navajo kids on the reservation. The fact of the matter is that teachers in this country do not make much money. His dad also has health conditions that cause him pain every day where mobility is limited. He has been of service his entire life and he needs a bit of help. The insulation estimate is $3,300 and is the most urgent. There is also a roofing project planned for the spring of 2023 so I am hoping for $10,000 to help this family.

JJ works magic with his hands and makes jewelry, which is his craft and his calling. He has been working nonstop to try and help his family where he can. We are now past the holiday and sales are likely to significantly decrease. He is in a very rural area of New Mexico and it can be hard to make a living as a full-time artist. There are only so many hours in a day or week and it is hard to read how much he is working to try and help supplement what his family needs on top of his own needs. JJ has had substantial car repair needs on top of this recently and it seems like he can't catch a break.
