Propaganda kills — in the truest sense of the word. Opening the news and looking at the pictures of ruined Ukrainian cities would be enough to realize this. The problem is that most people in Russia are denied the chance to see this news, and even if they do, they believe it to be fake.

The sooner Russians wake up and recognize the horrific reality, the sooner the war will end. To bring it to an end and prevent further wars, we want to launch our own news media and reach out to the millions who are still unaware of what Putin is doing on their behalf.

Why is this important?

In recent years, Putin has been successively destroying independent Russian media and driving them out of the country. He wants no one to open Russians’ eyes to what is going on. He wants people to think they support a “special operation” to liberate Ukrainian civilians from the “Nazis”, while what they actually support is war and genocide. The moment most Russians realize what is really going on in their country, Putin’s power will end, and the war will end with it. But for that to happen, the truth must be conveyed to them. We want them to know the truth — and we are counting on your support.

Who are we?

We are the team behind Alexei Navalny, a Russian opposition leader and champion of democracy who has gained the status of Putin’s main enemy during his years of fighting against the criminal regime. In 2011, Navalny founded the Anti-Corruption Foundation with the firm belief that corruption is at the root of most Russian and global problems. Since then, we have released hundreds of investigative reports on corrupt officials in Putin’s government, the most important of which, a film about the palace owned by Vladimir Putin himself, has amassed over 120 million views on YouTube. Releases of our most high-profile investigations were accompanied by protest rallies all across Russia.

With each passing year, the pressure on us kept growing. Our office was regularly raided. At first, we were subjected to administrative proceedings, then criminal proceedings started. Some of our employees are now in prison, others had to emigrate to escape persecution. Our organization has been declared extremist, key staff members have been placed on a list of extremists and terrorists. Alexei Navalny survived an assassination attempt in 2020 — Putin sent a special FSB unit armed with chemical weapons to kill Alexei (no, this is not the plot of a Bond movie!). When the attempt failed and Navalny returned to Russia, Putin jailed him on a trumped-up case. And after the war had already begun, Alexei’s prison sentence was extended by another nine and a half years. None of this, however, has made us stop our operations. This year, the Anti-Corruption Foundation went global. We set up a new organization in the US jurisdiction to fight the export of Putin's corruption abroad.

During our years of transparent work, we have proven that we cannot be controlled by the Kremlin. And our main goal remains the same: to expose the truth, educate the Russian people and demand an end to political autocracy and oligarchy.

What will your money go towards?

We believe that we should not limit ourselves to producing investigations now — we need an honest media to bring the truth about the war and Putin’s other crimes to those people who still believe him. Preconditions for its creation already exist — our Popular Politics YouTube channel, which hosts special livestreams about the war every day, already has 1.16 million subscribers, and their number keeps growing. But this is not enough to reach everyone. So, we want to strengthen our team and create a full-fledged media outlet. We are prepared for the possibility of our platforms getting blocked, and we are considering different formats for delivering information, from websites to social network pages. But the main thing that the money will go towards is salaries for those who will work on these platforms, along with rent and equipment.

Since the war started, many people have joined us, including independent journalists who were forced to leave Russia and left without a job. Most of them are now in Europe. Your donations will enable them to do what they do best: stand up to propaganda. Your donations will give them back the opportunity to fight Putin on their own front, while the fight against him with real weapons continues in Ukraine.
