NBHD Brûlée

Friday night, a devastating fire ravaged NBHD. Our beloved coffee shop, a home away from home for many in our Harlem community, basically burned to the ground due to an electrical fire. While we are enormously thankful that no one was harmed, our small business now faces an uncertain future.

This breaks our hearts. We worked hard to make NBHD a community fixture. Within our walls, friendships blossomed over cappuccinos and delicious sandwiches. Entrepreneurs found inspiration tapping away on laptops. Neighbors reconnected during breakfast rushes. Children giggled over hot chocolates and freshly baked pastries. This was a space that nourished the soul as much as the body.

Beyond our doors, we purposefully supported the neighborhood by sponsoring toy drives, hosting breast cancer screenings, donating to food pantries, hosting watch meetings and leading fundraisers. We provided opportunities for area youth, hiring staff from the community and participating in the NYC Summer Youth Employment Program.

Now the future of NBHD hangs in the balance. We need your support to rebuild and recover. With extensive smoke and water damage, it will take significant resources to restore our beloved space to its former warmth and glory, and to once again become a vibrant community center.

Please give what you can to help us get back on our feet and reopen as soon as possible. No amount is too small. Together, we will rise from the ashes and once again fill this space with the rich aroma of fresh coffee, joyous laughter, and community spirit. In this time when the world seems to be going awry, we need this special, safe place now more than ever.
