A "K"ure for Kelsey
Donation protected
December of 2022, Kelsey began to feel pain in her abdomen, and it quickly escalated. The pain became so severe that she went to the hospital and was immediately assessed.
As some of you may or may not know, Kelsey has been diagnosed with cancer. She has a Rhabdomyosarcoma mass behind her left kidney (possibly attached) and invading her psoas muscle. The pathology of the mass is unclear, she’s had three biopsies with no definitive pathology provided. She has had multiple scans and tests done over the past couple of months with high hopes the tests would help her medical team to learn the specific type of cancer she has. Unfortunately, those tests didn’t provide us the answers we were so badly hoping and praying for. However, they did show us how aggressive and fast growing the cancer is. Kelsey has been struggling with a lot of pain and discomfort over the past several weeks due to the size and placement of the mass.
The first round of chemo (beginning May 15 2023) was sucessful in reducing the mass size, however, the medical team also found several cancer nodules in her lungs which means the cancer has metasticized.
Prior to sugery to remove the one near her kidney, the doctors decided to do a second round of chemo (which was successfully completed this week), in hopes of addressing the mass size as well as the nodules in her lungs.
While Kelsey's family has been by her side every step of the way, Kelsey's dream is to one day have a family of her own. The funds donated will help support Keley's medical bills as she is unable to work however; this will also fund the opportunity post Chemo to do an egg retrieval for future IVF treatments.
Over the past year, I've had the pleasure of getting to know Kelsey and her family, and truly no one deserves the support more than this beautiful young woman.
update as of 6/22/2023:
Last week Kelsey was rushed to the hospital. She had a horrific infection spread throughout her internal linings.
On 6/17, around 3 am, they had to resuscitate Kelsey and since then, she’s been intubated and is in a medically enduced state to now force her body to rest.
As of today, Kelsey had a good restful night. She has maintained and continues to fight. Her fluid output was amazing last night averaging 250-300cc/hr. In the last 24 hours she has put out 3 liters of fluid which is HUGE!
Over the past several days Kelsey has been making slow and steady improvements. Her body is still very much inflamed and very sick. They still have her listed in critical condition but she has been holding her own. She is off all of the medications to stabilize her blood pressure. She is off the insulin drip to stabilize her blood sugar. She is off one of the sedation medications, and we are seeing her personality shine through. She is making facial expressions, moving her lips, and opening her eyes when she wants to put her opinion in. This has been amazing for us to see.
We appreciate all of your continued prayers, love and support. Please keep Kelsey in your prayers, as she has a long road ahead of her.
“Slow and steady wins the race”
We will continue to update as we learn more throughout this journey.
Kelsey and her family are beyond grateful for the outpouring of love and support.
