This page has been set up to assist a homeless and inspiring sexual assault survivor. The victim would like to remain anonymous, so we will call her “The Broad Street Survivor”.
In March 2014, Ms. Broad Street was sleeping under a bridge off of Broad Street in Columbus Ohio, when she was awoken by someone beating her in the head. The suspect then sexually assaulted her before fleeing on foot.
The Columbus Police Department conducted an investigation and through DNA, were able to identify Ms. Broad Street’s attacker and make an arrest.
Being that Ms. Broad Street is homeless, the chances of her attacker going free looked pretty good for him due to the fact that if the victim does not attend court, commonly the charges are dropped. Ms. Broad Street wasn’t going to chance this man attacking another woman or herself again so she vowed to make every court date. Through delays and continuances, Ms. Broad Street NEVER missed a court date, assuring her attacker stayed locked up. Ms. Broad Street even walked 8 miles to attend court on a couple occasions!
Well, her perseverance paid off and after the defense saw that she wasn’t going to give up, her attacker plead guilty and was sent to prison!!
This story made national attention and touched the hearts of people worldwide. Several kind individuals reached out to the reporter, prosecutor and detective wanting to help get Ms. Broad Street off the street. After sharing the overwhelming support from everyone with Ms. Broad Street, she welcomed the idea and wants help starting a new life.
This fund is being set up with the assistance of Ms. Broad Street’s Pastor.
