Help build Azran an all-terrain power wheelchair

Every child should have the opportunity to explore nature, roam wooded trails, and walk or roll along a sandy beach. A custom, all-terrain power wheelchair will give Azran that opportunity and we need your help to make it happen!

Azran is a precocious, articulate, curious boy of almost 5 years old. His rare disability affects his strength and mobility, but also enhances his drive to access his world. Although he faces many obstacles, determination is not one of them. Azran is certainly defined by his aspirations and not his limitations!

In September of 2020, Azran received his first manual (self-propelled) wheelchair, which completely changed his and our lives. He now has some independence around our house - he can play with toys at tables, do school activities, help with chores, play pretend and even get into a little trouble - the kind that every toddler needs to experience! His manual chair is awesome but has limitations. With Azran's condition, he has chronic joint pain and often fatigues very easily, making it hard for him to push himself when he gets tired and hard to keep up with other kids. His current chair is ideal for smooth surfaces like wood floors, but challenging to move on pavement and not at all tenable to move on grass or rougher terrain. We pretend about all the possible adventures, but now at almost 5 years old, he's really ready to go on some of his own adventures!

Pediatric power chairs available through insurance are very heavy, weighing 100 - 400 lbs, which is massive for Azran's small size and challenging for transportation. They are also typically ideal for indoors or smooth paved outdoor surfaces. This is why we're hoping for Azran to have a custom solution. Bailey Built Wheelchairs is a husband and wife team that build unique, fully customized, lightweight, all-terrain power chairs. Their build for Azran will be green (his favorite color) with a custom joystick for his limited reach, supportive seating to grow with him, and best of all- their specialized adventure configuration with dirt tires to allow Azran to explore anything from rough trails to beach sand!

The total power chair build is $11,475. Anything raised above that amount will go toward a folding vehicle ramp and materials to build accessible outdoor play structures for Azran.
