From Survival to Thriving: A Personal Journey

Donation protected

Hello,

I hope this message finds you with an open heart, because it’s from mine that I write today. My name is Tammy and I’m 52 years old. For me, sharing this part of my life publicly is not just a leap of faith—it’s a deeply vulnerable act. Asking for help doesn’t come easily.

When I was just 9 years old, my world changed forever. I endured years of sexual abuse, a trauma that shaped so much of who I was and how I lived. Those early experiences filled me with self-doubt, shame, and a feeling of isolation that was hard to put into words. Survival became my way of life.

For decades, I have worked tirelessly to heal the wounds left by those experiences. Therapy has been a cornerstone of my journey—especially EMDR, which changed the way I process my past. For the first time, I was able to separate my traumas from my identity.

One of the hardest parts has been grappling with how my past affected the relationships closest to me. My children deserved a mom who was fully present, and I struggled to be that for them. I’ve carried that guilt. I also hold onto the hope that my growth shows them how powerful healing can be.

It affected my relationship with myself, how I saw myself. I've learned that only I define who I am and how I feel. So, in 2015, after taking care of myself mentally for so long, I decided to take a significant step for my physical health. I underwent gastric bypass surgery and lost over 100 pounds—a transformation I’m proud of and have maintained. But with that transformation came another challenge: excess skin. This is not just about appearance; it’s about comfort, confidence, and the freedom to feel at home in my own body for the first time.

Unfortunately, my insurance does not cover the surgery and the cost is significant. As much as I’ve tried to save, this goal feels out of reach on my own. That’s why I’m turning to the kindness of others.

If you’ve ever faced a challenge that felt too big to handle alone, you understand how humbling it is to ask for help. Any contribution—big or small—brings me one step closer to feeling my best, both physically and emotionally. By supporting this next chapter in my journey, you’re not just helping me achieve a personal goal; you’re becoming a part of a story of resilience, hope, and renewal.

To anyone who contributes, shares my story, or even takes the time to read this: thank you. From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate your time, your kindness, and your belief in me. This life is a gift, and I intend to live it to the fullest—strong, healthy, and grateful.

With love and gratitude,

Tammy
